MEET ALISON, OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER
My name is Alison, and I am a professional chef with over 20 years’ experience working in the Fraser Valley near Vancouver, Canada. I have been passionate about cooking my whole life and, after studying history in university, decided to make it my life’s work. I attended culinary school and currently manage a local restaurant and do some private catering. Cooking has been a way for me to express my creativity and I find inspiration from local, seasonal produce and my interests in history, literature, and fantasy. It was these interests that led me to try my first themed dinner party, recreating the final meal on the Titanic! Collaborating with my sister, Joanne, Rhubarb and Lavender started as a way to share our immersive entertaining experiences and themed feasts–specifically recipes inspired by books! Her artistic styling and photographic skills truly bring our feasts to life and I am always grateful for her honest food critiques! The name Rhubarb and Lavender encompasses many of my culinary inspirations. Rhubarb is a favourite ingredient of mine and grows plentifully on our property while lavender represents my love of edible flowers in cooking and cocktails. Though many of our recipes take us to far off, fantastical worlds, my menus remain inspired by the local foods around me and the bounty of the earth.
MEET JOANNE, OUR FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER
My name is Joanne. I am a lawyer and self-taught photographer and videographer from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I have always had a great love of art history, fantasy, and literature, with a background in classical music. It wasn’t until Alison and I started Rhubarb and Lavender that all these great loves came together in our themed feasts! My sister and I work in collaboration to create an immersive experience for our community that draws on the source material, literary themes, and our own aesthetic and artistic vision for each themed menu. Our content creation process is highly systematized with a strict requirement of one to two cocktail breaks per photo shoot. And, most importantly, I am the #1 accredited taste-tester of Alison’s recipes!
